Preferred Equine Online July 5 Mixed Sale in the Books – US Trotting News
Briarcliff Mansion, New York — In what manager David Reid described as a “very strong, successful and professional sale,” Preferred Equine Online closed its July 5 mixed sale with 14 of 20 lots on offer for a total of $369,000. The sale averaged $26,357.
The top seller in this episode’s “all racehorse” sale was well-bred sophomore filly Elegant Mermaid 2.1:57.3, a gold winner from last year’s Ontario Sires Stakes which represents a tremendous broodmare value when she finished the race.
She was bought for $56,000 by Josh Green after being sold by PEO as an agent for Sara Baillargeon, who sold horses very successfully at the company’s recent online sales.
Sold for $52,000, sub-1:50 pacemaker Fabrizio N. The Sweet Lou import has earned $48,000 so far this season and took a 1:49.3 mark at the Meadowlands, where he competes in the conditioned upper classes. It was sold to Aaron Waxman.
Two other horses sold for $42,000: Captain Keen, who hit a new lifetime mark of 1:51.1 at Pocono on June 20, was purchased by Greg Luther; and the $190,000 winning mare Shadow Play Cyclone Sister was purchased by Paul O’Neil.

Reid said racehorses that are fit, competitive and show fast lines continue to be in huge demand, which bodes well for those now entering horses in the Tattersalls Summer Mixed Sale, which will be held at Meadowlands on July 26. He noted that the date for the next Preferred Equine online mixed sale will be announced later this week.
